Chiquita - ripening technology

In the Dutch Chiquita ripening, De Laat Koudetechniek has built ripening rooms with 2 levels, in order to utilize the ground surface as optimally as possible.

These ripening cells are, in order to not disturb the technical operation at Chiquita, constructed in our own warehouse, after which they have been placed at Chiquita with a crane.

Because of the double capacity of the ripening rooms, an outstanding number of 48 pallets are able to ripe at the same time. In the photos, one can also see the nitrogen circulator, which ensures that the ethylene is diluted in order to prevent explosions. Ethylene is being used to homogeneously ripen bananas.

This ripery is fully CO2 neutral: all excess heat from the ripening rooms is being transported in order to heat the offices. This way, Chiquita saves 40-45% on energy costs yearly.

Not only the ripening rooms, but the teperature in all other rooms at the ripening is being managed by De Laat Koudetechniek. We ensure that the temperature never gets below 11 degree Celsius. This ripery is fully CO2 neutral: all excess heat from the ripening rooms is being transported in order to heat the offices. Thanks to these systems, Chiquita saves 40-45% on energy costs yearly.
